Maria Sklodowska-Curie
The only woman who won Nobel Prize twice. She contributed to the discovery and knowledge of the phenomenon of radioactivity, discovered the first two radioactive elements – polonium and radium.
Fryderyk Chopin
One of the most recognizable composers in the history of classical music. His music is considered the essence of Polishness.
Lech Walesa
Co-founder of the Solidarity social movement, leader of the strike in the Gdańsk shipyard during the communist era. Icon of Polish resistance against communism. First democratically elected president of Poland after WWII
Pope John Paul II
The first Pope in history who was Pole. His pontificate lasted almost 27 years. He is well known for over 100 pilgrimages all over the world. He was canonized in Catholic church.
Krzysztof Penderecki
Composer and conductor. Creator of operas, symphonies and orchestral works. His one of the most famous work is „Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima”
Helena Rubinstein
She was born in Cracow in Jewish family and became one of the richest women on the world. At the turn of the century, she founded one of the first cosmetics companies in the world. Currently, her company belongs to the L’Oréal group.

Polish fantasy writer – best known for his book series The Whicher, which is now filmed as Netflix TV series.
Pola Negri
The most famous and beloved star of Hollywood silent cinema of the 1920s. She was the first European actress in history to be contracted in Hollywood. Her real name was Apolonia Chałupiec. The end of her great career was the emergence of sound movie.
Robert Lewandowski
One of the best Polish footballers in history, as well as the best central striker and player of his generation in the world. He is the captain in the Polish national team.
Roman Polanski
Director – winner of many prestigious awards. e.g.Oscar. Director of  famous films such as “Rosemary’ s Baby” and “The Pianist”
Urszula Dudziak
Jazz singer, gifted with a remarkable five-octave vocal range. She recorded about 50 albums and performed with such artists as: Bobby McFerrin, Herbie Hancock, Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry, Ron Carter, Sting and Lionel Hampton.
Wladyslaw Szpilman
Pianist, composer. He created in the 1930s and the post-war years. During WWII he was sent to the Warsaw Ghetto. He survived, and described his memories in the book „The Pianist” . Roman Polański received an Oscar for the film based on it.
Witold Pilecki
Soldier of the Polish army. During WWII he was active in the resistance movement as a member of the Home Army. In 1940 he volunteered to Auschwitz – German Nazi Concentration Camp. He escaped after 2 years and presented, to the Allies, a report on the crimes committed at Auschwitz. After the war, he was captured by communists and executed as a traitor in 1948.
